On Monday 8th July, Tom Shannon, the Lead Lay Chaplain for the St Thomas Aquinas CMAT, spent the morning working with the new ‘Mission team’. The Mission team will work with the new school chaplains, Mr Agius and Mrs Anderson, and will go out into the community, to places like food banks, care homes and primary schools to have experience of serving others.

During the morning, Tom worked with 81 students who had applied to be part of the team. The students thought about what the ‘mission’ of their group would be, and wrote their own mission statements. They thought of ideas for the name of their group, designed a badge and thought of what things they would be able to do in school to support the Catholic life of the school. The students were able to get to know each other better, with the group drawing on students from Y7-9, by playing a number of team building games in the hall and on the field. The students were able to cool off at break time with an ice cream, and left at the end of period 3 with smiles and lots of ideas about what they will be able to do as part of this exciting new team next year!
